About Us

The Cy-Fair Chapter of National Women of Achievement, Inc. (NWOA) is a sisterhood of committed, concerned, and professional women who care deeply about the quality of livinf in Greater Houston communities. Since its inception, the chapter has demonstrated a commitment to service, education, empowerment, health, wellness, and sisterhood.

Achiever Rebecca Porter, then NWOA National President, inspired Ms. Anne Harris to consider starting a chapter. Ms. Harris asked some of her friends to join her in this effort to provide service to youth, young adults, seniors,  and the community as specified by the national organization. A group of eleven (11) distinguished and respected women responded to this invitation and became charter members of the Cy-Fair Chapter.

The Cy-Fair Chapter was chartered on May 12, 2009. The following year on September 18, 2010, a youth division, National Youth Achievers (ages 13 through high school graduation) was added. On February 16, 2013, a Junior division, National Junior Achievers (ages 6 -12 years) was added. These divisions are designed to support and encourage youth in leadership development, community service and scholarship.

The ROSE Award (Recognition oService Excellence) was established to recognize distinguished and dedicated women who have demonstrated exemplary dedication to community service. This award is presented annually at the Cy-Fair Chapter Tea and Roses Luncheon. The luncheon serves as the Profiles of Prominence event for the chapter as well as the Chapter’s Youth Scholarship Fund.

Members are the power behind the success of the Cy-Fair Chapter.  Each member selflessly gives of her time, talent, and treasure to serve individuals and the community.

In celebration of Women’s Health Month, each year, Cy-Fair Chapter has partnered with Walgreen’s to sponsor a seminar to provide information on women’s issues such as health and wellness, safety, finances, social media, etc. Also, members participate in many community service events/activities such as volunteering at the Food Bank, Stop the Silence Breast Cancer Walk, Sarcoidosis Walk for a Cure, UNCF Walk for Education, voter registration drives, and Assault on Illiteracy projects, “A Day of Cheer” for residents of the Westbury Place Nursing Home, Adopt A Family Food Drive, and Dress for Success. This year, the chapter co-sponsored (with Houston Metro Southeast Chapter) for The Duffel Bag Project to provide duffel bags to youth in foster care at CPS (Children Protective Service).

The Cy-Fair Chapter members have received several awards from National Women of Achievement, Inc. including Chapter of the Year, President of the Year, Achiever of the Year, and the Trailblazer Award.

Cy-Fair Chapter members get a great joy out of addressing all of the thrusts set forth by National Women of Achievement, Inc. – Youth and Young Adults, Status of Women, Senior Citizens, Political Awareness, Community Service, and Assault on Illiteracy
